LOCK HAVEN The continuing medical education program for members of the Lock Haven Hospital medical staff this month featured a presentation by Anne H. r Some of the barriers to DMD treatment adherence by patients and effective responses to those barriers

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, typically progressive disease involving damage to the sheaths of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. People who contract the disease typically display their first symptoms between the ages of 20 and 40 years old and those symptoms may include; numbness or tingling, impairment of speech and of muscular coordination, blurred vision, and severe fatigue.

Dr. Cross detailed some of the drug therapy treatment options that are available including both traditional approaches and emerging therapy options. Cross reviewed the modifiable risk factors and the ongoing evaluation process to improve MS care and the programs to manage some of the common treatment related side effects.

Early diagnosis and the early initiation of therapy protocols is critical in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, said Raj Patel, M.D., president of the medical staff, Lock Haven Hospital. Dr. Cross delivered strong insight into diagnosis and the broad spectrum of disease modifying drug treatments that are available in the battle against this devastating disease.
