NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio -- The library recognizes a week set aside for chemistry, a North Royalton nonprofit collects school supplies for needy children and Ohio law enforcement officers teach businesses about alcohol-related law in this edition of Morning Update:

The North Royalton branch library, 5071 Wallings Road, will celebrate National Chemistry Week with a program called The Sweet Side of Chemistry from 11 a.m. to noon Oct. 25. I'm not sure what's all involved but the library is tossing the word "candy" around when discussing this event. Volunteers from the American Chemical Society will lead the program. Families everywhere are invited. Call 440-237-3800.

Operation North Royalton Cares, in its fifth year, helped 67 needy students obtain basic school supplies for the school year. It also collected $630 in donations to help make sure the students have clothes for school. Program supporters include the city of North Royalton, the North Royalton Family YMCA and the city's Office on Aging. The program was co-founded by Councilman Dan Langshaw.

Finally,Partnership for a Healthy North Royalton tells us that Kevin Piazza of theOhio Investigative Unit trained 27 North Royalton business owners, managers and workers in the Alcohol Server Knowledge program at the city's Police Department. The program reviewed laws pertaining to the sale and consumption of alcohol, the use of false identifications and employment of minors. Participating businesses included 3 Spot, Augie's Pizza, Butch's Bar & Que, Dari's Mart, Michael's Place, Park Tavern, Royal Deli, Royal Park Fine Wine and Sip-N-Post.
