A Fresno man was killed Tuesday evening after exchanging gunfire with the owner of a pharmacy in Madera.

Aguilla Bailey, 31, staggered away from the Almond Avenue Pharmacy with at least one gunshot wound and died a short time later, according to Detective Robert Salas of the Madera Police Department.

The pharmacy is in a building that's part of a medical offices complex at the southeast corner of Almond and Emily Way, just three blocks east of Madera Community Hospital.

Police say Aguilla and another person stormed into the pharmacy about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and one began to shoot at the pharmacy owner and his mother.

The pharmacy owner, who was not identified, returned fire. Hit in the exchange were Bailey and the pharmacy owner's 68-year-old mother, who was wounded in the leg. She was later released from Madera Community. Aguilla was found in the back of a building just west of the pharmacy and died after he was taken to the hospital.

At the store Wednesday morning, two workers said they did not want to be interviewed about the shooting. But one indicated the gunfire erupted as soon as the two entered through a back door.

"They came in shooting -- execution style," she said.

Police say they are trying to identify the other person with Aguilla and believe that robbery was the motive.
