Medicine Chest sold to CVS Pharmacy

Braun Medicine Chest officially became a CVS Pharmacy on Dec. 29. The corporate offices of Medicine Chest and CVS Caremark issued a joint announcement detailing the sale of 19 Medicine Chest stores in Texas that will now all operate under the CVS brand.

..By expanding our presence in the state through the acquisition of Medicine Chests high quality pharmacies, we will offer our customers greater convenience and access to our services, Said Laura Underwood, Area VP of CVS.

Medicine Chest emphasized that their decision to sell to CVS was carefully planned and cited CVS commitment to maintaining the small-town feel of the local Brauns pharmacy. According to the CEO of Medicine Chest, Chad Michel:

Medicine Chest Pharmacy is proud to have served the Texas community since 1976 and it has been an honor to take care of our customers pharmacy need over the years As we continue to focus on our long-term care pharmacies and our remaining retail locations, we believe that CVS/pharmacy is the right partner that will maintain the same level of quality care in those markets we have divested. CVS has worked very hard to make a smooth transition for our customers and employees. Prescription and insurance information will be available at CVS seamlessly, with no interruption of services

The Braun Pharmacy building in Bandera will be remodeled during the first week of January to convert the existing store into a full service CVS pharmacy. Pharmacy services will operate without interruption during the remodel phase. The health and beauty sections of the store will be stocked during this remodel.

It is the intention of CVS to retain all current employees if they choose to continue their employment.

Mike DeAngelis, Public Relations representative for CVS Caremark, stated that his company is committed to maintaining the small-town environment that the Medicine Chest provided, while at the same time, providing the benefit of a national pharmacy and health and beauty brand.
