Meet the 2020 Section III All-CNY boys soccer large school team and Coach of the Year. The team is chosen by Section III coaches and the syracuse.com high school sports staff.

We have also chosen four finalists for Player of the Year. That winner will be announced at our annual All-CNY High School Awards celebration. Finalists are Jack Branigan, Baldwinsville; Francesco Pagano, Fayetteville-Manlius; Zach Shufelt, East Syracuse Minoa; and Benitio Vlassis, CBA

Here is the All-CNY boys cross country large school team for 2020:

Ziad Abdul-Malak

Name: Ziad Abdul-Malak

School: Fayetteville-Manlius

Class: 2021

Whats next: College soccer

Season stats: 8 goals, 9 assists

Best game: Away game at ESM

Best moment: Coach Hammonds 500th win against Baldwinsville.

Who (or what) inspires you and why? My family and my teammates. They both push me to become a better player and person.

In one sentence, tell why you love this sport: I play the sport because it is the most fun I have in my life.

Jack Branigan

Name: Jack Branigan

School: Baldwinsville

Class: 2021

Whats next: I plan to attend college for sports management and continue playing soccer at the collegiate level.

Best game of the season: Our game against J-D where we came from behind to win 2-1.

Best moment of the season: In the season-opener against West Genny, I played the ball from a free kick to my teammate, who then scored with 10 seconds left in double overtime.

Who (or what) inspires you and why? My parents inspire me because they always encourage me to do my best.

In one sentence, tell why you love this sport: The feeling of being on the soccer field is unmatched.

Alex Chiffy

Name: Alex Chiffy

School: New Hartford

Class: 2021

Whats next: I hope to study biology at Binghamton.

Season stats: 4 goals and 5 assists

Best game of the season: Semifinal game against Rome Free Academy.

Best moment of the season: Beating Whitesboro in the finals on their own turf.

Who (or what) inspires you and why? My parents.

In one sentence, tell why you love this sport: Because its been a part of my life for as long as I remember.

Evan deBerjeois

Name: Evan deBerjeois

School: East Syracuse Minoa

Class: 2023

Whats next: Looking to win a state championship next year.

Season Stats: 4 goals, defense conceded only 2 goals in league play (I am the center back).

Best game of the season: Versus Liverpool.

Best moment of the season: Scoring against Liverpool to tie the game with five minutes left.

Who (or what) inspires you and why? I am inspired by the thought of hard work. Natural talent can only take a person so far; however, with hard work on top of those natural talents, you can become elite at your craft.

In one sentence, tell why you love this sport: I love soccer because I have played for several years, and throughout those years I have had several coaches and experiences that have positively impacted my life and contributed to the person I am today.

Wyatt Dupell

Name: Wyatt Dupell

School: Cicero-North Syracuse

Class: 2023

Whats next: Improving myself as a player in preparation for my junior year.

Season stats: 87 saves, .870 save percentage, 5 shutouts.

Best game of the season: Playing F-M to a regulation shutout with the help of my teammates.

Best moment of the season: Ending the season on a home win with a shutout.

Who (or what) inspires you (and why)? My parents and coaches always inspire me to become the best player I can be through positive support and constructive criticism.

In one sentence, tell why you love your sport: I love soccer because it brings me a sense of accomplishment and team unity that I cant find anywhere else.

Matt Herrmann

Name: Matt Herrmann

School: Central Square

Class: 2022

Whats next: Continuing to play for my club.

Season stats: 7 goals, 5 assists

Best game of the season: At Auburn where I scored a hat trick.

Best moment of the season: Being able to play and practice with my teammates and coaches.

Who (or what) inspires you (and why)? My dad inspires me because he always encourages me to play hard and supports me with whatever I do.

In one sentence, tell why you love your sport: I love the competitive spirit and being able to play with teammates.

Chase Hornsey

Name: Chase Hornsey

School: Baldwinsville

Class: 2021

Whats next: College

Best game of the season: Against Oswego.

Best moment of the season: The two overtime wins.

Who (or what) inspires you (and why)? My teammates along with my determination to be the best version of myself inspires me to work hard and be the best I can.

In one sentence, tell why you love your sport: The passion and pride to win in soccer drives me to love the sport.

John Keib

Name: Johnny Keib

School: Jamesville-DeWitt

Class: 2021

Whats next: Before graduating this summer, I hope to play a full, normal lacrosse season in the spring. Next year I plan to attend Yale University, where Ill study and play lacrosse.

Season stats: 3 goals, 2 assists, 5 shutouts

Best game of the season: I think our best game was our last game of the season against Central Square. We won and secured the league championship, which was our goal for this year.

Best moment of the season: The best moment of the season was hearing the buzzer at the end of the ESM game, which we won 1-0.

Who (or what) inspires you (and why)? This year I was just inspired by the opportunity to play in my last soccer season. My coaches, Coach Law and Coach Cantor, also inspire me. Both fought hard for us to even have this season and made it fun and meaningful even without a postseason.

In one sentence, tell why you love your sport: I love the combination of different athletic components required in soccer.

Christian Moon

Name: Christian Moon

School: East Syracuse Minoa

Class: 2021

Whats next: I am committed to play soccer at Alfred University, where I will be studying athletic training

Season stats: 9 goals, 2 assists

Best game of the season: Our last game against Central Square, where I had a hat trick in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Best moment of the season: Scoring the game-winner in the final 2 minutes against Liverpool.

Who (or what) inspires you (and why)? Looking back at how far Ive come as a player and knowing that I can be even better.

In one sentence, tell why you love your sport: Playing soccer never gets old for me. Its the one thing that Im always excited to do.

Francesco Cicci Pagano

Name: Francesco Cicci Pagano

School: Fayetteville-Manlius

Class: 2021

Whats next: Syracuse University mens soccer

Season stats: 18 goals, 6 assists (42 points)

Best game of the season: Away against Cicero-North Syracuse (3 goals, 1 assist)

Best moment of the season: Scoring the game-winner at home in overtime against Cicero-North Syracuse for the 1-0 win.

Who (or what) inspires you (and why)? My older brother Joey, who has cerebral palsy, inspires me. Joey is the true definition of a warrior. He has taught me that quitting is never an option, anything is possible even if it is seemingly against all odds.
