Members of the Lincoln County Republican Party met in Cokeville this past weekend for their caucus which goals at the party level with the intent of moving forward at the grass roots level. Over 100 Lincoln County Republicans gathered on Saturday in Cokeville for the biannual Caucus, said Marti Halverson, Lincoln County Republican Party State Committeewoman. The work of the caucus-goers included the development of Platforms and Resolutions, documents which reflect the broad principles of the Republican party and stands on the issues of the day. These documents will be ratified at the March 10th Lincoln County Republican Party Convention, then sent up to the state party for inclusion in the Wyoming Republican Platform. Areas of discussion included Energy, Education, Health and Society, Defense and Foreign Policy, Land, Agriculture and the Environment and Jobs and the Economy. Those in attendance also participated in a straw poll, or an unofficial vote for the Republican Presidential nominee.

The straw poll heavily favored candidate, Mitt Romney, who took 75 votes. The next highest total went to Ron Paul who garnered 16 votes. Rick Santorum had six while Jon Huntsman received three write-in votes. Newt Gingrich did not receive any votes in the poll. Statewide results by county are available on the Wyoming Republican Party website.

The Lincoln County results are not surprising considering Romneys strong regional appeal coupled with his campaign making stops in Lincoln County earlier this summer which included a stop in Afton.

In addition, his son Josh Romney made an appearance in Lincoln County this past week in both Cokeville and Kemmerer.

Im just out here to say thank you for the wonderful support my dad and the campaign have received from the folks in Lincoln County, Romney said in a telephone interview. I dont have an official campaign title, but Im just doing my best to be out on the road and inform people as to why I think he is the best man for the job and the best bet to defeat the President in the general election.

Romney reinforced his beliefs that the involvement of voters at the grass roots level is vital to the process, especially in this years election.

People have a lot of concerns right now and they should have then,he said. The current president has been learning on the job. He had never run anything prior to being elected and I know that my dad can be ready to help the country on day one.
