Vance Kiser returned to Danville to pursue his dreams of
opening a pharmacy and starting a family.

Piedmont Pharmacy, owned by Kiser and Ashlyn Payne, opens
Monday at 305 Mount Cross Road near Leggett Town & Country
in Danville to offer residents a small, independent pharmacy
option.

“I really like the customer interaction and the health care
field,” Kiser said. “I like being able to talk to people from
all walks of life.”

Piedmont Pharmacy plans to cater to customers’ needs, including
ordering requested items for the store or matching competitors’
drug prices, he said. Kiser wants to connect with the community
and offer more of a personal touch than big-box stores.

Residents can call and ask questions about their medications,
for instance, he said. The pharmacy will offer a list of $4
generics and plans to add other services like flu shots.

Kiser, 30, spent summers working as a pharmacy technician at
CVS and the hospital in Danville while attending college. He
returned to Danville after finishing his doctorate in pharmacy
from Shenandoah University in Winchester in 2008. He and his
wife are both from Danville, where they want to raise their
family.

“It’s home,” he said. “No other place can be home.”

The dream of starting a family coincided with the opening of
the business, as Kiser’s wife is due any day now with their
baby boy.
