Ohio set to begin Phase 1B of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout next week – News 5 Cleveland

CLEVELAND Next week, the 1B phase of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout will begin in Ohio and the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals have announced plans for how they will be distributed to its patients.

Starting Saturday, individuals 80 years and older will be able to sign up and schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine.

Ohio has 750 provider locations across the state and about 100,000 vaccines, which will be made available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week, depending on the delivery date, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said Thursday.

Individual providers, like the Cleveland Clinic, will have information on their own websites, and on Friday, DeWine said the state will launch a tool on the Department of Health's coronavirus website where Ohioans can select their county or ZIP code to see a list of providers that received the vaccine.

As the state receives larger allotments of the vaccine in the future, DeWine said they will move to larger vaccination sites in addition to individual ones. The governor said the state is also in the process of working on a statewide vaccine scheduling system.

Appointments can be scheduled through MyChart.

The vaccines will be distributed at Hillcrest and Fairview hospitals, as well as the InterContinental Hotel by the Main Campus.

Individuals who receive the initial vaccine will get information on scheduling an appointment to receive the second dose.

This is a complex vaccination program that could take several months, and vaccine supply may take time to catch up with public demand, Cleveland Clinic stated. We appreciate the publics patience as we work to get the vaccines in our communities. Its important to continue practicing public health measures such as masking, social distancing, frequent hand washing and avoiding gatherings until then and even after individuals have been vaccinated.

The vaccines will be distributed at UH Management Services Center at 3605 Warrensville Center Road in Shaker Heights.

Phase 1B Timing:

Vaccinations in Phase 1B are expected to begin the week of January 19. Governor DeWine announced a tiered system for offering vaccinations to the estimated 2.2 million people who are eligible for the vaccine under this phase, beginning with those who are 80 or older. When a new age group begins, vaccinations may not be complete for the previous age group. It will take a number of weeks to distribute all of the vaccine given the limited doses available.
