GUEST OPINION: Australian industry leaders are navigating a complex regulatory environment that is increasingly focused on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within business operations. This focus is driven by a concern for consumer protection, particularly the safety and security of personally identifiable information (PII) and the potential for AI-driven systems to deviate from expected behaviours. According to the Australian Cyber Security Centres (ACSC) Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), some of the biggest challenges consumers and organisations face when engaging with AI include data poisoning of AI models, input manipulation attacks, generative AI hallucinations, privacy and intellectual property concerns, and model stealing attacks.[1] These deviations range from minor inaccuracies to more severe misguidances and underscore the importance of regulatory bodies in establishing frameworks that ensure AI technologies serve the public's interest without compromising safety or privacy.
