11-05-2012 14:16 Stem cells are the body's repair cells. They have the ability to divide and differentiate into many different types of cells based on where they are needed throughout the body. Stem cells can divide and turn into tissues such as skin, fat, muscle, bone, cartilage, and nerve to name a few. With this capability, we can use them as a treatment for joint injuries, ligament and tendon damage, and fractured bones. Using MediVet America's Stem Cell Therapy, we have seen positive clinical improvement in 95% of the arthritic cases performed nationwide. Some owners have even reported seeing a difference in as little as a week! See the original post: Stem Cell Therapy Exclusively at Gandy Animal Hospital - Tampa, FL - Video … Continue reading

In The Know: Stem cell therapy

Posted: Published on May 13th, 2012

Philippine Daily Inquirer Former President and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who was suffering from a mineral deficiency in her bones arising from two corrective surgeries last September, wanted to seek alternative stem cell therapy abroad. However, she was barred from leaving the country last November after Justice Secretary Leila de Lima refused to honor the temporary restraining order issued by the high court on the inclusion of Arroyo and her husband Jose Miguel Mike Arroyo in the immigration bureaus watch list. In the wake of Arroyos supposed plan to try the radical technology at stem cell centers abroad to cure what her doctors here described as a rare bone disease, a province mate and a colleague of the former President filed a bill to put up a stem cell center in the country. Pampanga Rep. Carmelo F. Lazatin, a member of the minority bloc in Congress, has filed House Bill No. 5287 mandating the establishment of a research facility to explore the benefits of stem cell technology as a potential cure for incurable diseases. The Occupiers leave the building

Posted: Published on May 12th, 2012

May Day was supposed to have been a big moment for the Occupy Wall Street movement. As millions of angry Europeans took to the streets, the Occupiers urged Canadians and Americans to turn out too. They called for a general strike of students and workers, as well as a total shopping ban. It was supposed to be A Day Without the 99 Per Cent. Did you notice? Me neither. In Toronto, where the action kicked off at Nathan Phillips Square, the CBC reported that the police outnumbered the crowd. At the Ontario Legislature, a few protesters dug an illicit garden and planted peas. Across Canada, the streets were remarkably quiet except for Montreal, where students protesting against tuition hikes, some with balaclavas and bricks, were wreaking their usual havoc. There were other nasty moments. In San Francisco, black-clad activists trashed the Mission District, smashing windows with crowbars, spattering storefronts with eggs and paint, and spray-painting anarchy symbols on parked cars. Their targets were not greedy banks and big corporations, but small shops, restaurants and a housing project. This just seems like theyre frustrated with their impotency at this point, Jeremy Tooker, owner of Fourbarrel Coffee, told the San Francisco Chronicle. … Continue reading

Merritt fails to take Greene's trash-talking bait

Posted: Published on May 12th, 2012

LaShawn Merritt, who has served a doping ban, on Thursday failed to take the trash-talking bait laid by Britain's Dai Greene, a likely rival in the 4x400m relay at this summer's London Olympics. The 25-year-old American was banned for 21 months in October 2010 after testing positive for the anabolic steroid DHEA in three tests between October 2009 and January 2010. His lawyer claimed the drug had been contained in an over-the-counter penis enlargement product and that Merritt had therefore consumed it inadvertently. The one-lap specialist was then cleared to compete in the London Games after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said that the rule banning athletes suspended for doping for six months or more from competing at the Olympics was "invalid and unenforceable". Merritt's ban was back-dated to October 2009 and he returned to competition in July last year, promptly going on to claim silver in the 400m at the world championships in Daegu, South Korea, a month later. But that has not stopped Greene from lining Merritt up squarely in his crosshairs, the reigning 400m hurdles world champion calling the American a "liar, thief and cheat". "If I'm in the relay team and we reach the … Continue reading

Pharmacist sees bright future for Benevere specialty practice

Posted: Published on May 12th, 2012

Despite a turbulent time in the pharmacy industry, Brett Wright said next week is the "perfect time" to open his shop in Collierville. Wright's Benevere Pharmacy opens Monday in Poplar View Plaza at 1162 W. Poplar. While a new Walgreens or CVS seems to pop up somewhere every other week in the Memphis market, Benevere hopes to find success in the niches. Wright has special training in compounding and years of experience with specialty drugs and personal medication management. So while others duke it out in the traditional ring, for him and his specialties, "the time couldn't be better." "We can hopefully provide a holistic approach for the patient rather than a silo-type therapy, just treating one piece of the disease rather than the whole patient," Wright said. A compounding physician can custom-make some medications for specific patients, a rare speciality in the United States. The International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists represents just more than 2,100 such pharmacies nationally. There are only about five of these pharmacies in the Shelby County area. Many times, the compounds are made with the mortar and pestle, the symbol most associated with pharmacies. Compounds can be anything from pain creams to medicine hidden in … Continue reading

Bauder Pharmacy, a nearly century-old Des Moines fixture, is the subject of an administrative investigation after state officials found a shortage of almost 741,000 pain pills. Mark Graziano with a pan of the business's peppermint bars while at the Iowa State Fair in 2008. (Register file photo.) The Iowa Board of Pharmacy has filed 20 administrative charges against the pharmacy, 3802 Ingersoll Ave., Des Moines, and its owner and pharmacist, Mark Graziano, in connection with the missing hydrocodone tablets. The shortage was discovered by an inspection and audit, which included information from an automated reporting system maintained by the U.S. Department of Justice that monitors the flow of certain controlled substances. Graziano was not in the store Thursday, and a message left for him was not immediately returned. He acquired hydrocodone products for Bauder Pharmacy from 14 different drug wholesalers between 2008 and 2012, according to state documents. The pharmacy ordered and received 1,098,900 of the tablets between Jan. 1, 2008, and March 21 of this year and dispensed 358,012, according to prescription monitoring program records. Additionally, inspectors noted that shopper surveys had indicated numerous deficiencies ranging from mislabeling on prescription vials to expired registration of a technician at the … Continue reading

Cell Signaling Technology, Inc. Develops Novel Monoclonal Antibody Discovery Platform

Posted: Published on May 12th, 2012

DANVERS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cell Signaling Technology, Inc. (CST) of Danvers, MA is pleased to announce the development of a new discovery platform for antigen-specific monoclonal antibodies. This novel antibody discovery technology, named NG-XMTTM, harnesses the power of proteomics to identify and clone antigen-specific monoclonal antibodies directly from the circulating serum of an immunized animal. As described in the May print issue of Nature Biotechnology [30, 447 452 (2012)], NG-XMTTM technology enables the isolation of monoclonal antibodies with antigen-specific activities that recapitulate or surpass those of the original affinity-purified polyclonal antibodies found in the sera of immunized rabbits and mice. Our NG-XMTTM proteomics-based technology is faster and more efficient than traditional hybridoma-based methods, said Roberto D. Polakiewicz, Ph.D., CST Chief Scientific Officer. Moreover, our proprietary and patent pending technology can be applied to the development of therapeutically relevant human monoclonal antibodies for vaccine development and for understanding basic questions in immunology. CST has long been an industry leader in the development and manufacture of high performance antibodies for basic and clinical research, and we are excited to announce this breakthrough in monoclonal antibody technology. NG-XMT technology is ready for commercialization, said Fenel M. Eloi, CST Chief Operating Officer. CST is exploring … Continue reading
