INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WANE) - Officials confirmed that one of the two girls injured in a Florida parasailing accident on July 1 received a second brain surgery at IU Health Methodist hospital on Thursday after being released from a rehab hospital.

Alexis Fairchild, 17, of Huntington County, was driven to the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana from a Florida hospital on July 11. Treatment included physical therapy, neuropsychology treatment, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

Fairchild's parents, Michael and Angela Fairchild, said she received surgery to treat complications from her injuries on Thursday at IU Health Methodist hospital.

They released the following statement on Friday:

Alexis was admitted to IU Health Methodist hospital yesterday. She is being treated for complications from treatment of her injuries. Alexis has gone through surgery today and is in recovery. We want to thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts during this difficult time. Alexis still has a long road to recovery.

The following statement was also released Friday from Fairchild's physician, IU Health Neurosurgeon Dr. Richard Rodgers:

Alexis had a postoperative complication from an emergency surgery she had at the time of her injury. This required a second surgery to treat a wound and will likely require further procedures. From a brain injury perspective, Alexis is recovering very well. This recent surgery will require a relatively short stay in the hospital to receive treatment with antibiotics.

On Thursday, NewsChannel 15 reported that Fairchild was released from the rehab hospital. However, she was then later admitted to IU Methodist.

Her friend who was parasaling with her, Sidney Good, 17, of Huntington County, was moved out of Indiana University Health and transferred to a rehab hospital on Tuesday.
