Community members in the Khayelitsha township in Cape Town, South Africa, work to rebuild their homes. Amid the coronavirus, police are tearing down shacks built on public land by people who can no longer pay rent on their previous homes. From the first house to the last one, no one is working, said Nomfuneko Khonokhono, pointing to a row of hastily constructed shacks and tents opposite a fetid wastewater treatment plant. Ms. Khonokhono said she could no longer afford her rent for a backyard shack after being furloughed from her $240-a-month job in late March. Read more.

Nurse practitioner Wendy L. Wright, who owns and operates Wright & Associates Family Healthcare, examines a patient at her Amherst, N.H., clinic. The traditional experience of getting health care is shifting away from the solo doctor. In the future, patients might be more likely to see a team of health-care professionals whose compensation is linked to keeping patients healthy. Dr. Wrightpredicts that 20 years from now, nurse practitioners will be the primary-care providers for the vast majority of people in this country. Read more.

Many Italians, such as these in Milan, have embraced the use of face masks or moved indoor activities outdoors, even when it isnt compulsory. Italy, the first nation outside Asia to suffer a major coronavirus outbreak, had one of the worlds worst death tolls this spring.People were very afraid in March and April and that has an effect on short-term behavior, but its not clear how long it will last, said Guendalina Graffigna, a psychology professor at Milans Catholic University. Were a Mediterranean country and often we act on our emotions more than in other countries. Read more.
