A man accused of sexually assaulting a woman last year is behind bars.

Kevin Hartsfield, 38, faces a charge of aggravated sexual assault after officials said his DNA was matched with DNA collected from a sexual assault nurse examination kit.

A 17-year-old girl was on her way home December 2014 when she was approached by somebody from behind, an affidavit for an arrest warrant stated.

Wearing a ski mask and gloves, the man grabbed her by the neck, and told her to be quiet or she was going to die, the affidavit stated.

The girl told police the suspect then unzipped his pants and tried to pull down her pants.

As he did this, the girl noticed a handgun in his waistband and noted a tattoo on his lower abdomen.

She also saw the mans face as his masked slipped above his head. A police sketch provided and released on T.V. would later provide tips identifying the man as Hartsfield, the affidavit stated.

She told special victims unit detectives that she was sexually assaulted repeatedly.

During the assault, the girl fought back. Hartsfields crotch was met with the girls foot. Thats when he allegedly began punching her, slamming her head on the concrete, the affidavit stated.

She was able to break free and run off, she told police.
