Call Dr. Ed Noa at 707-718-2036. http://www.doctornoa.com Telomere testing - SpectraCell http At the ends of your chromsomes are stretches if DNA called telomeres. Telomeres protect the genetic information, making it possibly for your body cells to replicated and hold onto the information. The best example for a telomeres is like a shoelace. At the end of the shoelace is the plastic tips. Those plastic like tips (telomeres) prevent the chromosome ends from falling apart and sticking together. If the chromosome falls apart or sticks together, then it can cause disease and early death. When the body cells divide, the telomeres get shorter. When they get too short the cell dies. Oxidative stress can also shorten the telomeres. Telomere dynamics in human mesenchymal stem cells after exposure to acute oxidative stress. DNA Repair (Amst). 2012 Sep 1;11(9):774-9. This effect is found both under normoxic and hyperoxic culture, although it is more pronounced under conditions of higher oxidative stress. ukpmc.ac.uk Role of Oxidative Stress in Telomere Length Regulation and Replicative Senescence.
