RIPAS Cardiology Centre Goes up in Flames

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of a fire at the Cardiology Centre of the Out-patient Services, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital in the early morning yesterday. No casualties or injuries were reported during the incident.

The quick response of the Hospital Staff, Ministry of Health and cooperation by other government agencies from Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Brunei Police Force, Electrical Department and the public, the fire was safely brought under control at 8.36am. The Minister of Development as the Acting Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman was at the scene.

The Commanding Officer of Operation 'A' Branch of the Fire and Rescue, Mohd Yudeswandy bin Bakar said the department received a distress call at 7.54am and arrived at the scene at 8am. Seven fire engines from the Fire and Rescue Station of Bandar Seri Begawan, Beribi, marine and Berakas were rushed to the scene. Patients and members of the public were evacuated safely before the firemen and rescue personnel arrived.

A statement from the Ministry of Health announced that following the fire incident at the Out-patients Services Section of RIPAS hospital yesterday, the Out-Patients Section of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital (RIPAS) will resume full operations today October 14 2014, with the exception of the Cardiology Centre and Diabetes Centre which were most affected by the blaze.

Basic services will be available at the two centres as usual but out-patient services for both centres will only resume on October 15, 2014 at designated areas.

Members of the public are advised to observe instructions by hospital staff and to exercise patience while waiting for their treatment in view of the inconvenience caused by the fire, added the statement. BRUDIRECT.COM
