Chemistry educators will have a chance to learn more about how to tap into creativity in the classroom as San Jacinto College hosts the 208th Conference of the Two Year College Chemistry Consortium (2YC3 ) at the Central Campus Nov. 14-15.

This year's 2YC3 theme is Metacognition: Think About It. Dr. David Eagleman of Baylor College of Medicine, author of the New York Times bestseller Incognito The Secret Lives of the Brain," will kick off this year's conference on Friday, Nov. 14, with his presentation "Livewired: How the brain learns and remembers.

Pamela J. McInnis, Pasadena Police Department crime laboratory director, will follow that evening with "Inside the Crime Lab." Dr. Nivaldo Tro, professor of chemistry at Westmont College, will present "Making Chemistry Relevant" on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Sessions and workshops will be held throughout the two-day conference to address such topics as Creativity in the Classroom, "The 18 Year Old Brain," Instrumentation for Student Laboratories, Technology in the Classroom and other topics related to teaching. A tour of the NASA Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory is planned for conference participants.

The primary goal of 2YC3 is to provide a professional development conference that affords chemistry educators an opportunity to network and share ideas about innovative and creative ways of integrating current science, pedagogy, and real-world applications into the chemistry curriculum. 2YC3 is a branch of Division of Chemical Education of the American Chemical Society, the worlds largest scientific society and one of the worlds leading sources of authoritative scientific information.

The 2YC3 conference registration fee for both days is $40 for full-time college professors and $20 for adjunct professors. This includes a year's membership in the organization. The conference is free for high school teachers, college and high school students, and exhibitors. The San Jacinto College Central Campus is located at 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena.
