Holidaymaker Robert Hall drowned after getting into difficulties off the coast of Kenya.

The 68-year-old was 'unresponsive' when he was pulled from the Indian Ocean after going into the sea for a 'gentle' swim and taken to hospital.

But the OAP - who was holidaying in Mombasa - later lost his fight for life.

Medical tests revealed Mr Hall, who lived in Ingestre, near Stafford, had suffered a heart attack in the water. He had previously suffered a heart attack in the UK.

Now an inquest has ruled that Mr Hall drowned. His cause of death was recorded as '1A drowning and 1B myocardial infarction'.

Coroner Richard Hughes said: The actual cause of death is drowning. What caused that was the myocardial infarction.

He had been a fit man, although he had suffered a myocardial infarction which had been appropriately investigated.

He then went on holiday to Mombasa and had an unwitnessed event in the water when he was pulled out unresponsive. He was taken to a local hospital where he received further resuscitation and never recovered from that.

Rob drowned after suffering a heart attack while swimming.
