'Stroke Symptoms, Solutions' to be topic

Allegheny Valley Hospital PriorityCare program will host "Stroke Symptoms and Solutions: The Bridge to Expert Care" at 6 p.m. March 6 at the AVH Outpatient Care Center, 224 Longfellow St., Vandergrift.

Teresa Domit, a registered nurse and AVH's chest pain and telemedicine consultant, will discuss symptoms of a stroke, the importance of seeking appropriate intervention within the "golden hour" and explain what to do if a stroke occurs. She also will review treatment options.

Butler Memorial Hospital Education and Clinical Advancement Center will offer a father-and-son class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 1 in the Nixon Sarver classrooms in the tower addition at the hospital's main campus.

Fathers and their 9- to12-year-old sons will meet to discuss changes during puberty and encourage communication.

Topics will include an anatomy review, physical and emotional changes, personal hygiene, good health habits and communication.

Fee is $30 for each father-son set. Adults must be present; more than one child per set may attend. Group rates are available. Registration is required. Call 724-284-4843.

Allegheny Valley Hospital's Destination Wellness at Pittsburgh Mills in Frazer will host a Tai Chi for Beginners series from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, March 8 through April 12.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art that promotes well-being by circulating the "chi," or energy of the body, through a series of slow, relaxing and controlled movements. It is recommended for reducing stress and anxiety, improving balance and increasing flexibility.

Fee is $45. Call 724-274-5202 to register. A maximum of 50 participants will be accepted.
