Treatment for Muscular Dystrophy in Mumbai India
He is a known case of MD (?DMD) with symptoms starting at age of 7 years. Initially, he had lower limb muscle weakness that gradually progressed to difficulty in walking, walking on toes and frequent falls and climbing stairs. At 10 years, they consulted an orthopaediatrician when investigations were done and he was diagnosed as DMD. Neurologically, he is hypotonic and hyporeflexic. He has muscle weakness ,more in the lower limbs as compared to upper limbs (proximal more than distal).He is grade 4 distally grade 3 proximally in both upper limb lower limb. He has pseudohypertrophy of bilateral calf muscles and tongue. He has slight waddling gait. He sits in kyphotic posture. Functionally, independent in most ADL. On Brooke scale he scores 1 and on Vignos scale he scores 3. On FIM he scores 107. After Stem Cell Therapy 1) While playing cricket, during batting doesn #39;t fall now as he hits the ball. Earlier would always fall. 2) Now when walking slowly does not fall. Earlier would fall at least 4-5 times/day. Now reduced by 10% according to father. 3) Getting up from floor is easier. 4) Lordotic posture has reduced. 5) Calf muscles have softened. 6) Now when walking, heels touch the ground. 7) Now it is easier to climb stairs. Uses less support of unilateral railing and reduced base of support. Climbs without holding railing. 8) FIM has changed from 107 to 111.
