UPDATE 12:31 p.m. EST Friday, March 10 Ryan Thomas, an accident victim in the three car collision, was just wheeled into surgery to repair his fractured sacrum. The surgery is expected to take a minimum of 7 hours. Due to being a diabetic and the area of trauma, he is at an increased risk of infection and blood clots. The family is asking for continued prayers.

Five-year-old Skarlett is awake, and has fractures through her entire spine. She will be in a neck brace and back brace for six to eight weeks and rehab. Doctors say Peyton may be paralyzed from the neck down, but the family has seen movement in her arms.

[Seven-year-old Peyton] started to move her arms! said the family in an update. This is great news. Baby girl couldnt move her fingers just yet but lets just keep praying.

Five-year-old Skarlett has spinal and intestinal injuries and is being airlifted down state for further treatment. Seven-year-old Peyton has a severe spinal cord injury and is paralyzed from the neck down.

According to the Baraga County Sheriffs Office, the accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on US-41 near Canyon Falls. A northbound vehicle driven by Ryan Thomas, 32, of Marquette, collided head-on with a southbound vehicle driven by James Tricka, 55, of Bessemer.

Trickas vehicle was then struck by a northbound semi-truck, driven by Brad Trudell, 39, of Calumet. Two children, ages 5 and 7, were passengers in the Thomas vehicle. They were transported to UP Health System Marquette for treatment.

Thomas was extricated from his vehicle by the Jaws of Life. He was transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital and later to UP Health System Marquette.

Tricka and a passenger in his vehicle sought their own medical treatment. Trudell was uninjured in the crash.

Whiteout conditions were reported at the time of the accident, which at this time remains under investigation.
