UC pharmacy school wins national award

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston's pharmacy school has been picked as one of two winners of a prestigious national award, the school announced.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston's pharmacy school has been picked as one of two winners of a prestigious national award, the school announced.

The pharmacy school is a winner of the National Challenge award of the "Script Your Future Challenge" contest from the National Consumers League.

The contest encourages health sciences programs across the country to raise awareness of medication adherence, or taking medications as prescribed.

"The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy is exceptionally proud of our students being selected by the Script Your Future Committee as winners of the 2013 National Challenge Award," pharmacy school dean Michelle Easton said in a prepared statement. "Through this competition, our students were able to participate in real-world learning and help educate over 6,000 West Virginians on the importance of medication adherence. I commend the students for their hard work, as well as the exemplary training provided by the UC School of Pharmacy professors and staff."

Students at the pharmacy school created 12 new activities and resources, including health fairs, comic-strip contests, social media outreach and web videos.

The UC team comprised students from the pharmacy school, the physician assistant program, athletic training education program, and the Regional Tobacco and Substance Abuse Prevention Program.
