US$ 70M AdventHealth Training Center opens in Florida – Construction Review

A ribbon-cutting event was held recently for a US$70 million AdventHealth Training Center in Central Florida. The newly built facility is a collaboration between the non-profit AdventHealth, the DeVos family, and the Orlando Magic basketball team. In addition to providing a training site for Orlando Magic, the facility will also serve as a sports medicine hub.

The AdventHealth Training Center is a 130,000-square-foot development situated at South Division Avenue and West Central Boulevard. A large portion of the facility is occupied by Orlando Magics sports facility, while the AdventHealth sports-medicine center occupies just 33,300-square-feet. HOK was in charge of the designs and Balfour Beatty handled construction on the project.

The sports facility at the AdventHealth Training Center was designed to include some of the most technologically advanced amenities. Alex Martin, Magics CEO said tracking mechanisms have been installed in the rafters to analyze the movement of all players. Furthermore, it incorporates several sustainable building technologies, such as daylighting and sun shading, stormwater management, and advanced lighting systems with controls.

The sports facility also provides well-equipped, world-class recovery and performance spaces, along with two full-size basketball courts. Players will have access to indoor-outdoor training spaces featuring turf areas, an incline ramp with stairs, and several strengthening machines. Additionally, the facility provides several recovery amenities such as altitude chambers, massage suites, NormaTec suite, hyperbaric chamber, and float pod. On top of that, a cryotherapy room is also available, along with hot and cold recovery pools and a treadmill pool.

On the other hand, the 33,000-sq.-ft.the clinic will be located on the third floor of the AdventHealth Training Center. This facility will provide several healthcare services for Orlando Magic and the public as well. Several such services include orthopedics, primary care, sports medicine, imaging, rehabilitation, and sports performance care. Besides providing health care, the clinic will leverage its connectivity to the training facility to work on optimizing sports performance.
