The business manager of a Washington County cardiology practice says the business has not deliberately overbilled Medicare, Medicaid and Veterans Affairs.

There's no evidence here that we ever did anything like that, said Maria Donohue, wife of Dr. Bryan C. Donohue.

Roseanne Wholey, wife of Dr. Mark Wholey, claims in a federal lawsuit that UPMC, Bryan Donohue and Donohue Cardiology Associates of Washington, Pa., overbilled and double billed the federal insurers during the time her husband was associated with UPMC and Donohue Cardiology.

Andrew Stone, Wholey's attorney, declined comment. UPMC also declined comment.

Wholey is suing under a provision that allows a private citizen to retain up to 30 percent of any money she recovers on behalf of the government. Wholey sued in October 2013, but the case remained under seal until this month.

U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti unsealed the case when federal prosecutors filed a notice that the government had elected not to intervene in the case.

During the time Mark Wholey was associated with Donohue Cardiology, UPMC was handling its billing. UPMC bought the practice in 2012, and Wholey switched to Allegheny Health Network.

After the split, she spent several weeks going over their billing with Roseanne Wholey, Maria Donohue said.

We don't have anything to hide, she said. There's not going to be anything here.
