Forward Josh Kennedy says he is disappointed with the Eagles' performance at the weekend - believing skill level and lack of chemistry are to blame.

West Coasts Josh Kennedy says a lack of chemistry has been a factor in the Eagles inconsistent start to the season.

Not surprisingly, seven of the top eight spots on the AFL ladder are filled by the teams that have used the fewest players in the first six rounds of fixtures.

Top side Port Adelaide has used the fewest, with 26, the same number as sixth placed Gold Coast.

Players in those sides are getting a chance to build on their chemistry because they are actually playing alongside one another every week.

But like in 2013, the Eagles are having issues keeping their best team on the field.

Last season premier Hawthorn enjoyed having 18 players play 19 games or more. West Coast had 10. And only 12 Eagles have played all six games this season. They have already used 31 of the 43 players available on their list, with only GWS and Carlton having used more (both 32).

Kennedy says that a lack of chemistry can effect a number of areas in a game, which was a factor in West Coasts three-point loss to Carlton on Saturday after it had led by 24 points with nine minutes remaining.
