A mother from Workington is appealing for people to help her raise funds for life-changing surgery in Mexico.

Brogan Johnston, 26, has set up a go fund me page to try and raise the 50,000 she needs to receive treatment for Multiple Sclerosis after she was diagnosed earlier this year.

The mother of one was told she had the life affecting disease after going to the doctors for a check-up when she started experiencing blurred vision in her eye.

Describing the realisation of having MS the day after her diagnosis, she said: I literally woke up the next morning, within five seconds I was crying because I was like I literally cant believe that this isnt a nightmare, that this is happening to us.

However, after must research with her husband Scott and talking to people who also have the condition Brogan was able to find out about a one of a kind HSCT treatment to halt the disease in its tracks.

The 28-day intense chemotherapy treatment aims to stop the damage that MS causes by completely wiping out and regrowing my immune system using stem cells from Brogans bone marrow.

Because Brogan does not qualify for the treatment in the UK she has decided to try and raise funds to go and have the much-needed care in Mexico on August 30 this year.

In less that 24 hours the page had raised over 20,000 with Cumbrian born Man United star Dean Henderson donating 2,000.

On the support that she has received from people, Brogan said: The support has just been phenomenal, people that we dont even know have been donating.

Brogan said that the treatment would be life-changing, especially with her daughter Adalyn only being five years old. She said: At the moment I am waking up every single day thinking can I still move my fingers and toes, is my vision still okay, that is literally the first thought when I wake up, to have that treatment it gives me the best chance of living a normal life.

If you would like to donate to the page you can do so at: https://gofund.me/8b0255ab The family are also planning on having a raffle to help with their fundraising.
