Worlds oldest man turns 112 in Japan

The chemistry teacher and high school principal is still in good health.

TOKYO: A Japanese recognised as the worlds oldest living man by the Guinness World Records last August turned 112 today.

Xinhua news agency reports Sakari Momoi, a resident of Saitama city near Tokyo, enjoys good health today.

Momoi celebrated his birthday with family members at a healthcare institution in Tokyo where he now lives.

He was born on February 5, 1903 in Fukushima prefecture and previously held the positions of agricultural chemistry teacher and principal of government-run high schools in Fukushima and Saitama.

The worlds oldest living woman is 116-year-old Misao Okawa of Osaka.

Okawa will turn 117 next month.
